2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lauderdale County completed the 2015 season with a 9-4 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region eight, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Lauderdale County lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Colbert County team by a score of 39-20. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The defense was very stingy last season as Lauderdale County ranked 23rd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 12.8 points a game. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Lauderdale County has gone a combined 60-16. Their 79.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 3A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lauderdale County has managed to compile a record of 177-112. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 3A and 84th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2009. Bob Grisham stepped down as the head coach at Lauderdale County for family reasons following the 2015 season. He leaves the program after seven seasons with a 64-22 record. His teams went 10-6 in the playoffs and won a region championship in 2011. His overall record as a head coach including a stint at Lexington stands at 117-76 in 17 years. Jeff Mason takes over the football program at Lauderdale County. He is a 1984 graduate of the school. This will be his first head coaching job. The Lauderdale County Tigers will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2016 season. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2009 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Rogers on Friday, August 19 at Pirate Field. Last year the Rogers Pirates finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 4A region eight. The Pirates ended last season on a positive note with a win over Sheffield by a score of 34-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Lauderdale County and Rogers have met a total of 57 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 32-24-1 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2011 with Rogers winning by a score of 23-0. Lauderdale County returns 3A All-State Senior running back Jalyn Jones. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
